Protecting Your Holiday Without Package Deal Travel Insurance

Many people now opt to book individual aspects of their holiday, such as flights and accommodation, separately. But doing so makes it even more essential that you have the appropriate insurance in place to cover you, just in case the worst happens and your airline or travel company goes out of business.

Here are a few of the travel insurance features available to help ensure you are properly protected if your holiday plans are disrupted:

Travel Insurance that Covers your Flight Failure

It is usually a part of a main insurance policy, although it is sometimes offered as an optional extra. It is worth double-checking with your insurer, as some will not cover particular airlines.

Swiftcover is an example of one provider on our comparison service who can supply this type of insurance.

Travel Insurance including ‘Supplier Failure’

This is a clause many providers now include as part of their main travel insurance policies and can cover you if any of your travel providers goes out of business.

For flights, if your airline goes bust, you can claim back the extra money you might need to stick to your original holiday plans, or you can get a refund if your trip relied on that flight to go ahead. Similar rules apply if problems arise with any hotel rooms or tours you book in advance. There is extra premium involved with this type of coverage, but is well worth paying as opposed to ending up completely out of pocket if something does go wrong.

Unfortunately not all insurance companies offer this clause, particularly the cheaper travel insurance, so make sure you check the details section of the policies when you compare travel insurance packages to see which include this coverage for free.

If your current policy does not include ‘Supplier Failure’ protection….

You may purchase this cover as a stand-alone product. Coverage can include your entire holiday, or you can simply pick and choose the parts you wish to protect.

Last but not least, always remember to pay for your flights and any other travel arrangements with a Visa Debit or credit card, because any big purchases using credit card are usually protected under the law.
