Top Five Tips on Buying Travel Insurance

1.     Do Your Research – Few travel agents bother to check whether the cover they sell you is sufficient for all your needs, so get online and search the market to make sure you’re getting the most suitable cover! Your credit cards, money, and passport might not be covered automatically, so you may need additional insurance for them!

2.      Activity Cover – if you’re planning an activity holiday, make sure you’re covered for all the activities you’re likely to be taking part in. Standard policies often exclude “adventurous” or “hazardous” activities such as horse-riding, skiing, or diving. Make sure that even your activity equipment is covered.

3.      Connect The Dots – If you are taking several flights, just in case one of your flights is cancelled, make sure that you are covered for subsequent hotels and journeys forgone. Most travel policies only cover return trips, you if you have not booked your return journey in the event of a claim, you may not be covered.

4.      Plan Beforehand – Don’t wait until last minute to buy your travel insurance as you might need to claim before your holiday begins, in case your travel companion or close relative becomes ill or insured.

5.      Don’t fall into the double cover trap – your baggage might be covered under your home insurance, so make sure that you don’t pay for extra coverage!
