Common travel accidents worldwide

Accidents cause 20% of all deaths among overseas travellers – the second most common cause after heart disease (68%) and the most common cause in people in their 20s and 30s. Usually accidents can occur through personal violence, accidental injury, or road accidents. Here are some of the most common travel accidents happening worldwide :

1. Victim of mugging

Try to avoid walking alone at night, no matter how safe is the city you are in. Fact is you are a foreign tourist and you will not know which area is safe and which area is a little bit riskier.

2. Falling down

Falling down on the street due to overconsumption of alcohol, misstep, and carelessness is very common. Try to pay more attention to your actions when you are travelling abroad. Trivial injuries might not be all that threatening in your home country, but it will certainly compromise the joy of your travel!

3. Car accident

Insist on wearing a seatbelt when you drive, and be really extra careful when you weave your way through the messy circuits of foreign traffic.

4. Pickpockets

Pickpockets’ favorite targets are undoubtedly tourists! With so many sights to enjoy and being occupieed by the novelty .

5. Sprain

Prolonged walking and strenuous outdoor activity might cause you certain injury if you are not being careful. Sprained ankle and blisters might not be dangerous on their own, but they might be the source of more serious accidents when you are engaging in high-risk activity, say rock-climbing or intensive trekking!

In order to minimise the risk of travel accidents, it is better for you to be protected with a reliable travel insurance package that covers for not only your medical expenses abroad but also evacuation back to your home country in times of urgent emergency.
